The Daily Pixels this week: Diapers, dogs, travel and gardening, oh my

Apparently school has heated up as I just realized I haven’t posted in a week, and I’m sitting on a pile of Daily Pixels. I filled the last seven days to the brim with dissertation proposal drafts (including the final version!), teaching prep, manuscript writing, reading, travel to and from school, and a few photos here and there. In an effort to keep my sanity, I’ll present the Daily Pixels in digest form. Enjoy!

January 13, 2012- 013-011312- Diaper gazing at Costco

At Costco, I caught Mr. T admiring cases of gentlemen’s diapers but he moved too quickly to get caught in the act. A better story from the trip–also not captured on “film”–was T making a small child burst into tears. Yes, I’m married to the guy who makes kids cry in public. To be fair, it was something of a morality tale for the 2-year-old who wasn’t listening to his mother’s pleas for him to join her at the check-out, but still. When T pushed our shopping cart between boy and mom, and the 2-foot tyke couldn’t see his parents anymore, my heart just about broke watching the panic. And then he burst into tears. We couldn’t stop laughing which makes us bad people, but you probably knew that already.

January 14, 2012- 014-011412- The defiant furball

Half-Maltese and half-Bijon Frise, Goliath is covered in hair, not fur. This means it gets tangled and matted as it gets longer. Instead of traumatizing him every few months by attacking him with clippers, we leave it to a professional. As this photo indicates, his hair cut was long, long overdue and I interpreted his expression as: “What, what… just try to wash me.”

January 15, 2012- 015-011512- Winter gardening wonders

Stop being distracted by that cool looking flower and notice the beautiful SNOW PEA I grew in the garden on the lower left. I may or may not have squealed out loud and run into the house with my camera to show T. Truth be told, I think the snow peas are the only garden veggies I’m truly excited about right now!

January 16, 2012- 016-011612- He’s half the dog he used to be

Goliath shrinks up nice when he isn’t covered in six months of hair. This would be him begging for some chicken.

January 17, 2012- 017-011712- Oops

Dang it, I missed one already!

January 18, 2012- 018-011812- Sunrise at 40,000 feet

On the way to Phoenix. The only cool part of my weekly rising at 4 a.m.? Watching the sunrise from above the clouds. Spectacular!
In case you wonder where I’ll be writing my dissertation.

January 19, 2012- 019-011912- Good questions at ASU

It occurs to me that I’ve never seen anyone actually write on this chalkboard outside of Coor Hall at ASU, but I appreciate the weekly messages, quotes, questions, announcements, etc. that seem to magically appear.
